Who runs our hospital and keeps our veterinarians in line? This team! Providing vital assistance in medicine, running the day-to-day operations, and stepping in wherever they’re needed are just some of their many duties. Get to know the veterinary staff below to learn who is taking care of your pet when they need it most.
Sheri RVT
Sheri started working at the Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa in 1993. She graduated from Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK with an associate degree in veterinary technology. In 2017, she earned the Oklahoma Veterinary Technician Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award! Sheri chose a career in the veterinary field because she wanted a job where she could work with animals but didn’t want to be a veterinarian. Her favorite aspect of working here is the unique challenges of emergency medicine as well as patient care. Her passion for her job includes a strong emphasis in nursing care.
Sheri is married to Dr. Troy McNamara and together they have three children, Haley, Jeannie, and Jon Allen. They also have two Australian Shepherds named Waylon and Shooter, two Chihuahua mixes named Kiapo and Iniki, a Boxer mix named Ringo, and a miniature donkey named Wyatt. When she has time, Sheri enjoys gardening and hanging with her family.
Loretta RVT
Loretta always had an interest in emergency medicine. She knew from a young age that she wanted to either work with children or small animals. In high school, she decided to pursue a career working with small animals and chose veterinary nursing because of the impact her skills have on the lives she cares for. She is proud to be someone who advocates and cares for those who have no voice! In her job, she loves seeing how excited her patients and their families are to be reunited after a stay in the hospital. Being able to return someone’s cherished family pet is a rewarding and fulfilling experience.
Loretta received an associate degree in applied science in veterinary technology from Tulsa Community College in 2006. In that same year, she became a registered veterinary technician. After several years of working in veterinary medicine, she received certification in basic life support and advanced life support from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
Loretta is married to her husband, Andrew, and he has been with her every step of her journey! Together, they have a son, Reznor, who keeps them very busy when they’re not at work with Boy Scouts, Archery, and Taekwondo. Their fur family includes three dogs: a Chihuahua mix, Hugh Ransom Dogsdale (Ransom for short), Ducky, a Shih Tzu mix, and The Dude, a Samoyed; as well as two cats: Plex and Winchester, both domestic shorthairs. You may see Ransom around the clinic as he is always coming to work with Loretta! In her spare time, Loretta enjoys reading, being outside, and eating sushi!
Kristi RVT
Kristi has always wanted to help animals. She started working at a veterinary clinic as an assistant in 1988 until 2001 when she started working at the Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa.
She attended Tulsa Community College and completed the veterinary technician program in 2001, which earned her an associate degree in applied science in Veterinary Technology. Kristi finds the knowledge she has gained and her ability to help her patients to be the most rewarding things about her role.
She and her spouse have a daughter who is attending OSU, as well as several pets including a Pit Bull named Dozer, Great Pyrenees mix named Cuda, Pit Mix named Luna, a Chow Chow named Yona, Collie mix named Buddy and another named Poppy and several cats. When she’s not working, Kristi enjoys spending time with her family, and most of all, being a mom!
Erica RVT
Erica earned her veterinary technology degree from Tulsa Community College. As a kid, she was always the one trying to pet all the animals she encountered and would beg her parents to let her bring home every stray she found. Erica got her first veterinary job at 15 when she volunteered as a kennel attendant to gain experience. She has loved vet med since that day, though she did leave the field for about 10 years before deciding to go back to school to become an RVT. She loves playing a role in saving lives here at AEC.
Erica and her fiance have a young son and a Pitbull rescue named Wyatt. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her son and fiance, going to concerts, shopping, and traveling.
Maranda Veterinary Technician
Maranda was born and raised in Oklahoma and grew up on a small farm. Veterinary medicine has been her career goal since she was a kid; she wants to be a voice for the voiceless and educate the public about the importance of veterinary care. Maranda started her career in Qatar, where she served as the lead technician for sports medicine, rehabilitation, and wound management. After returning to the US, she began working in a mixed animal practice. During this time, she realized she missed the fast pace of emergency medicine, and that’s when she came to AEC.
Maranda’s furry family includes two Blue Heelers named Ember and Guss, a Bloodhound named Hank, a cat named Goose, and a halter-bred quarter horse named Tela-T. In her free time, she likes riding horses and camping with her dogs.
Sarah Certified Veterinary Assistant
Sarah grew up on a farm and loved helping animals. She started working at the Louisiana SPCA in New Orleans in 1999. When she and her family moved back to Oklahoma in 2001, she began working at the Animal Emergency Center. Sarah’s education includes attending Tulsa Community College after high school and then transferring to Delgado Community College in New Orleans. There, she obtained an associate degree in applied science. While working here, she loves being able to help patients and their owners during difficult times. She also feels very lucky to work with her sister (and best friend) Amy, a receptionist here.
Sarah has been married to her husband, John, for 20 years and together they have two children, Kimberlee and Kelsie. Additionally, their fur family consists of two Persian cats, Harry and Davey; two Shih Tzus, Peggy and Bridget; and seven chickens.
Brittany Veterinary Assistant
Growing up, Brittany knew she would work with animals one day. She frequently brought home stray dogs and cats that she swore needed her help. After graduating high school, Brittany knew she wanted to find a job she had a passion for. No matter what she considered, she always came back to her love of helping animals. The most rewarding part of her career is advocating for patients, caring for them when they’re sick, and watching them recover and return to their families.
Outside of work, Brittany enjoys reading, hiking with her dogs, playing video games, and relaxing at home. She has a Pomeranian mix named Bowser, a mix named Rhea, a Golden Retriever named Percy, and a cat named Ru.
Rhett Veterinary Assistant
Rhett has a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (animal science) from Oklahoma State University. His passion for animals originated from growing up on a farm and raising pigs with his family. He got to spend time around animals large and small throughout his upbringing, and this led him to pursue a college degree in animal science. Rhett is currently in the process of applying to veterinary school while working full-time at AEC. One of his favorite aspects of his job is being able to provide comfort to our patients and their owners during medical emergencies.
Rhett and his wife, Caitlin, married in November 2023 and they have two cats; Pearl the tortoiseshell, and Poesie, a Ragdoll mix. His favorite things to do outside of work include watching college sports and UFC, reading, traveling with his wife, and enjoying Mexican food.
Azul Veterinary Assistant
Azul grew up around lots of animals, from dogs and bunnies to turtles and fish. She was always an advocate for their health and happiness. She knew as early as elementary school that she wanted to work in veterinary medicine, particularly with exotic animals, after visiting a museum in Arizona that rescued and rehabilitated desert animals. Azul has since moved from Arizona to Tulsa, OK, and as a part of our team, she loves providing a sense of security to families and building trust with our patients.
Azul has pets of her own; a Corgi named Mookie and a Pitbull named Meelo. Outside of work, Azul loves finding new movies to watch, especially international films. She also has a slight obsession with developing her village in the popular Nintendo game “Animal Crossing.”
Amy Client Care Coordinator Supervisor
Before working at the Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa, Amy was a stay-at-home mom for six years. She knew she needed to get back to work, and her sister (an assistant here), Sarah, told her of an open position as a receptionist. Amy dragged her feet on applying, but then Sarah called her on Labor Day, 2003 because the receptionist they had hired did not show up to work. The rest is history! Amy really enjoys working in a profession that allows her to help both pets and their families, especially in an emotional situation.
Amy and her husband Aaron have two boys. They also share their home with several pets including three Persian cats named Hazel, Sookie, and Sumo, two Shih Tzus, Penny and Mei Mei, and another dog named Buddha. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and trying new foods, as well as watching her favorite show, Rupaul’s Drag Race!
Teresa Veterinary Assistant
Teresa has always had an interest in the veterinary field. Growing up on a farm, she found she was very interested in the health of animals. In her role, she enjoys having the ability to help animals who are in need. She has attended two International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Symposiums, and so keeps up to date with the latest trends in urgent care.
Teresa also has another passion outside of her work with us: showing her black Miniature Schnauzers! She bred and shows her dog Garrett all over the country, and he's been named the #1 black Miniature Schnauzer in the country for two years in a row. At Eukanuba Dog Show, he was awarded Terrier Group 1 at the first owner/handler competition, and at New York's Westminster Dog Show, he received an AOM.
Teresa and her husband, Brian, share their home with their two sons, Brandon and Chris as well as Miniature Schnauzers, cats, paint horses, and chickens. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, and of course, showing her black miniature schnauzers!
April Client Care Coordinator, Veterinary Assistant
April has loved animals since she was a kid. She attended Pima Medical Institute to become a veterinary assistant, and as part of our team, she enjoys being able to support people and their pets in stressful medical situations. There’s always something new for April to learn or experience here at Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa, which keeps her on her toes!
April and her husband De’Angelo have three wonderful children and three dogs: two Australian Cattle Dogs named Banne and Brock, and a Pomeranian named Nina. When she’s not at work, April loves spending time with her kids and watching them do sports.
Allie Receptionist
10 years ago, Allie worked at a horse ranch in Georgia, but circumstances led to her returning to her home state of Oklahoma. She spent some time working in an administrative role for a state contractor, but Allie’s passion for animals remained. She left her administrative job and embraced the opportunity to work with animals again, joining the Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa. The most fulfilling aspect of her role is being able to offer reassurance and peace of mind to pet owners during difficult situations. Knowing she plays a part in ensuring the best care for people’s pets brings her immense satisfaction.
Allie and her husband, Kyle, a dedicated veteran and LEO, share their home with seven dogs: Roscoe (Dachshund), Max (Manchester Terrier), Maggie (Cocker Spaniel), Eleanor and Cooper (Basset Hounds), Xena (Doberman), and Edgar (Malamute). Away from the front desk, Allie is an avid food enthusiast, always keen to explore new culinary experiences. She also enjoys playing video games with Kyle and spending quality time together.
Johanna Receptionist
Johanna has always been a huge animal lover and has been doing foster and rescue work for about 14 years. She has worked in the human health field but eventually wanted to get into veterinary care instead. After moving from Wisconsin to Tulsa, OK, Johanna decided it was time to pursue her passion for helping animals. Her daughter, Gracie, is a fellow animal lover, and she hopes to inspire her to become a driving force for good in the world.
At home, Johanna has a Bulldog mix named Dutch and three cats named Odin, Blanche, and Bun. A variety of foster kitties and dogs also make their way through her home. As a part of the Animal Emergency Center of Tulsa team, Johanna finds fulfillment in supporting pets and their owners in their time of need. Outside of work, she loves going adventuring with her daughter and Dutch, working on random craft projects, and cooking lots of food!
